Karlovo is a city with 27,000 inhabitants located in the central part of Bulgaria 140 km from Sofia. Karlovo is a capital of the administrative district located in the northern part of Plovdiv region which comprises 1% of whole territory of Bulgaria (it is 1092 sq. km) and includes 4 cities (Karlovo, Sopot, Klisura and Kalofer) and 25 villages.

Due to prevailing and permitting climate local agriculture is well developed. The most fully developed trades of agriculture are roses’ culture, grape culture, cultivation of fruit and vegetables. There are also some sources of mineral water here.
Regarding the economical situation, Karlovo district is one of mostly developed in Bulgaria. The basis of local economy composes heavy industry. The most important manufacture of trade is the Wazow Machine Factory, which is one of the biggest producers of military equipment. "Bulgarian Rose" S.A. is a leading company of chemical industry. Its products are mainly exported. The food industry is represented by Meat Factory "Karlowo" and "Topalika" company, providing milk processing.

The Authorities of Karlovo and Konin signed the partnership agreement in November, 1997. The co-operation concerns mainly culture, economic and local government issues.
