International Children Festival of Song and Dance

The idea of this event was created in 1979 in the Voivodship Dance Centre in Poznań and in Voivodship House of Culture in Konin. It was thought to be an event which would allow the children’s dance groups from all over Poland to present their dancing skills. In 1984 the dancers were joined by young singers, and the event was named Festival of Dancing and Singing Children. A year after it was renamed the National Children Festival of Song and Dancein Konin.

The Konin festival is the biggest event of its kind in Poland, and one of the largest in Europe. Every year some 2,000 – 2,500 young artists from Poland and abroad participate. Participants have to acquire difficult qualifications to enter the June finals to be amongst the best soloists and singing and dancing groups. The amateur dancing and singing groups, soloists and duos reach extreme levels of professionalism at the festival. Konin is also the place of social meetings, where they can share their artistic joy with their peers and the audience. The festival has had a profound impact on the children’s song and dance, giving it a spontaneous, Konin style.

The Children Festival is very popular and renowned in Poland and Europe. Due to the TV and satellite broadcasts of the Gala Evening each year there are more and more viewers.

In 1998 the event was officially named the International Children Festival of Song and Dance in Konin. Since the year 2001 European Broadcasting Union takes a patronage on International Children Festival of Song and Dance in Konin. This is the only event that has such a big influence on promoting the city and the region in Poland and abroad. The International Children Festival of Song and Dance in Konin is organized by the Konin House of Culture.
