Konin economy has been dominated by the mining, power, iron and steel industries established in the 1960s. The two power stations that are within the city limits are owned by Zespół Elektrowni Pątnów - Adamów - Konin S.A.

The power stations are coal-fired mined nearby the city by Kopalnia Węgla Brunatnego "Konin" in Kleczewie S.A.. In Konin there is also the only one in Poland aluminum works Aluminium Konin - IMPEXMETAL S.A. and metal plants joined in Capital Group of FUGO S.A. - operates in Konin.

The dynamic development of the city in the last ten years has facilitated in establishment of new companies not connected with mining and power industry.

Pursuing prosperous development and better satisfaction of inhabitants' needs the Development Strategy of the City of Konin has been elaborated and accepted by the City Council. Its mission is to care of inhabitants' living conditions growth and city economic development. We want to be the City which is open for XXI century challenges and adjusted for Uniting Europe's requirements.
In recent years the City Authorities put special emphasis on expansion and modernization of technical infrastructure, protection of environment investment and improvement of city communication system as well as improvement of road and city streets conditions. The results of big expenditures has been the commencement of the biggest in city investment history construction of the second road bridge over the Warta River - new line of national road no. 25 that started in 2006. This investment will contribute to improvement of city communication system and shall raise its investment attractiveness.
Some other steps have also been taken to make Konin attractive for Polish and foreign investors. The example of this is the vote of the City Council on property tax exemption. Entrepreneurs investing in Konin and employing a specified number of people will obtain property tax exemption up to ten years.
